Drones are typically thought of as flying spying robots, or even worse flying spying shooting robots. But could we also employ drones for good? Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos certainly thinks so. In a 60 Minutes interview, he announced that Amazon wants to use octocopters to deliver your order within a half hour at any location you choose.
The goal for Amazon PrimeAir is to make quick and light deliveries around something like a 10-mile radius. Sending packages by drone would be greener than using trucks because it would be all electric, and people's stuff would find them wherever they were based on GPS coordinates they entered at checkout. Using phone tracking the PrimeAir drone could deliver extra tupperware to whichever grassy knoll your picnic ends up on.
As soon as Amazon can work out the regulations and figure out how to prevent your packages from being dropped on your head from above, Bezos promised, there will be a fleet of shipping drones taking the sky. Unsure if they also plan to deliver in the Colorado Town that planned to issue hunting permits for drones.
