Nano Supermarket
The NANO Supermarket presents speculative nanotech products that may hit the shelves within the next ten years: medicinal candy, interactive wall paint, a wine which taste can be altered with microwaves, a twitter implant, invisible security spray and much more. Visit the shop, taste & test our products and experience the impact of nanotechnology on our everyday lives.
Nanotechnology is an emerging field of science that deals with the manipulation of structures on an atomic and molecular scale – the size of one billionth of a meter. It is often seen as a trend in material science, but has much deeper implications. Nanotechnology radically intervenes with our notion of what is natural. It may realize the dreams people have of themselves and significantly improve our lives, but may also have its downsides.
The NANO Supermarket features debate–provoking nanotech products submitted by designers, technologists and artists from six different countries. They were selected by a jury of nanotech experts and design experts. Our products are both innovative and useful as well as uncanny and disturbing. They function as scenarios for potential nano futures, that help us decide what nano future we actually want.

| NanoSock – Self dressing sock
A lot of elderly people experience the loss of flexibility. In daily live this presents these people with a lot of practical problems. One of them, for instance, is bending over to pull up your socks while getting dressed. Many seniors now, have to rely on outside help to get them ready for the day. This is something that undermines their sense of independence and their overall dignity. The Nano Sock offers a solution to this problem. Through miniscule moving particles in the fabric, the sock pulls itself all the way up without any help. The energy to do this is generated entirely through the sock’s own movement that causes static electricity that powers the moving parts.

| SelectaDNA security paint
Once something gets stolen it’s often hard to trace back the original owner. To make the lives of thieves as hard as possible a lot of ingenious ideas already made their way to the anti-theft market. From engraving serial numbers into bike frames to GPS trackers in cars. But how about grandfathers clock or your blu-ray-player? How can you easily mark them? With the Selecta DNA Kit you can invisibly mark all your possessions through a unique strand of synthetic DNA. Just swipe a little bit of the DNA onto your most beloved stuff so that there is always proof of the fact that the items belong to you.

| NanoLift – Physical Photoshop
What would your life look like if you had the ability to change the shape of your face on a daily basis? Not just retouch parts through make-up but actually alter the physical form of your face. The Nano Lift is a product that could make this a reality. All it takes is one trip to the cosmetic surgery clinic, where they will inject a grid of tiny magnetic nano particles into your skin. From then on you can adjust these particles at home with the accompanied magnetic stick. The particles are connected with your skin, so adjusting the grid means physically changing your face.

| Programmable Wine
Each course of a fancy diner should be accompanied with a soothing wine. But why buy each different type separately when you can get them all out of one bottle? Nano Wine is a basic grape product that is mixed with nano sized flavour capsules. When exposed to microwaves these capsules release their flavour. Different wattage and duration of exposure means you create a different type of wine. Just open the vanilla capsules when you are in an Australian mood. Truffle puts you in an Italian atmosphere and for a smooth Merlot won’t have to do anything.
