Bae plays a man because she thinks that male avatars have more charisma, she wants to “project strength”, and all the “masters” in the game have male avatars. She says if she had to play the game alone she wouldn’t bother. Initially, she was attracted to it because she thought it looked beautiful, but the social element has become part of her life. Her guild meets up regularly.
Tringo is an online multiplayer game created by Nathan Keir (aka Kermitt Quirk) in December 2004 that runs inside the virtual reality platform Second Life. It is described as a cross between Tetris and Bingo.
Due to the popularity of Tringo there were a lot of compaints of Second Life players that the players of the Tringo game were anti-social, too much occupied with games and lost all touch with social life. That’s a weird reality in reality situation!

Toasted bread as an information display device (originally developed in 2001 but somehow still intruiging): a toaster that parses meteorological information from the web & then browns bread with an image of what weather to expect, readable & consumable on the way to work. the image is burned on to the bread by one of 3 stencils, representing sunny, cloudy or rainy conditions.
Eventually, the stencils could become more sophisticated, to display detailed weather maps, short text messages & even advertisements on to bread.
Libyan deserts are one of the hottest places on earth. That’s why they are making a river to them. The project known as Great Man-Made River is “an enormous, long-term undertaking to supply the country’s needs by drawing water from aquifers beneath the Sahara and conveying it along a network of huge underground pipes.”
Although some people suspect it to be a underground tunnel network for the movement of military stuff.
The Stock market skirt
Nancy Paterson made a blue taffeta & black velvet party dress that represents the real-time stock market situation by lowering or raising its hemline. When the stock price rises, the hemline is raised, when the stock price falls, the hemline is lowered. this concept is based on the ‘Skirt Length Theory’ which describes that skirt lengths are a predictor of the stock market direction. According to the theory, if skirts are short, it means the markets are going up. And ifÂ? skirt are long, it means the markets are heading down.
The idea behind this theory is that shorter skirtsÂ? tend to appearÂ? in times when general consumer confidence and excitement is high, meaningÂ? the marketsÂ? are bullish. In contrast, the theory says long skirtsÂ? are worn more in times ofÂ? fear and general gloom, indicating that things are bearish.
Although some investors may secretly believe in such aÂ? theory, serious analysts and investors -Â? instead of examining skirt length to make investment decisions – insist onÂ? focusingÂ? on market fundamentals and data.

The machine and the experience of the machine are becoming one. I’ve seen these kind of things in computer games, but now they are becoming real— Feels like plugging in to the Matrix— Can’t wait for someone with a heart rhythm disorder to come up with some fresh breakbeats!

The intervention/invention achieves an ultimate unity between car and driver.

An umbrella that provides information about the likelihood of rain so that users can make a simple, informed decision about whether to take the umbrella with them as they leave their home. after retrieving the weather data via a wifi connection, the handle glows more intensely with the increased chance of precipitation.

a purse that visually keeps track of valuable items such as keys, wallets, personal identification cards, & cellular phones through various sensors embedded in the bag. if something is missing, an iconographic pattern associated with that item ‘lights up’ on the outside of the bag.
RAP is a new generation of painting robots designed for Museum or long exhibition displays. It is completely autonomous and need very little assistance and maintenance. RAP creates it’s own paintings based on an artificial intelligence algorithm, it decides when the work is ready and signs in the right bottom corner with its distinctive signature. The algorithm combines initial randomness, positive feedback and a positive/negative increment of ‘color as pheromone’ mechanism based on a grid of nine RGB sensors.
Also the ‘sense of rightness’ – to determine when the painting is ready – is achieved not by any linear method, time or sum, but through a kind of pattern recognition system.
