Prior to her education at the Design Academy Eindhoven, Teresa van Dongen studied Biology. This is where she discovered that there are many secrets of nature and great scientific developments that very often don’t see the light of day. She became eager to explore the things she had touched upon in her former education but never had the chance to show to people outside the lab. Possible new forms of energy fascinate her. As well as light as a translation of this energy, the material glass and the physics of movement. She loves to think that it is great to speak the languages of physics, chemistry and biology but that the greater value lies in collaborations with people that can continue to surprise and inspire you with their knowledge. With projects like her living, bacterial lamp “Ambio” she swings the laboratory doors wide open and integrates nature in her designs.
